Thatcham Fairtrade Town Campaign
Thatcham Fairtrade Town Campaign Stand at Broadway Fun held on Thatcham Broadway on Friday 27th August, 2010 saw a steady flow of residents wanting to know more about Fairtrade products and how Thatcham Town Council was promoting the Campaign to encourage fairer trading practices at home and abroad. Tasters of Fairtrade tea and coffee were offered together with chocolate cookies kindly donated by Doves Farm Foods Ltd. of Hungerford, made, of course, from fairly traded ingredients .
A children's competition attracted many entries with the young people having to identify the Thatcham shops where they could buy fairly traded tea, coffee and chocolate and name the country of origin of the Fairtrade ingredients. Winners were rewarded with a bar of Fairtrade chocolate. The Competition for adults was run along similar lines and was generously sponsored by Beauty at Tiffany's, The Family Bookshop and Shoecare of Thatcham, who had donated a Beauty Voucher worth £30, a Book about Thatcham and a Silver Plated Tray respectively.
After the event, the Chairman of the Campaign's Steering Group said "It was really encouraging to speak to so many people in Thatcham who already buy Fairtrade produce. We hope that those who tried it for the first time on Friday will now buy it in the future. This was a great start to our Campaign."
