Thatcham Fairtrade Town Campaign
Thatcham Fairtrade Town Campaign Steering Group met this evening, Monday 2nd August, in Thatcham Town Council Chamber, to discuss an exciting programme of activities to engage with the local community and encourage them to buy and use more fairtrade products and local produce.
The Steering Group elected Mr. Will Fletcher to be Chairman of the Steering Group for the current municipal year. Will is already known to many Thatcham residents for his youth work and involvement with the Partnership for Active Leisure Scheme (PALS) and other valuable work in the community.
After the meeting, Will said "Over the coming months we hope to harness support from schools, retailers, restuaurants, faith groups and other community groups to buy local and global Fairtrade produce, ensuring a fair deal for all producers at home and abroad. Together we can make Thatcham a Fairtrade town, which will benefit not only Thatcham but also local and global producers. We can make a difference to our world!"
Councillor Lee Dillon, Town Mayor of Thatcham, added "I am delighted that the Steering Group is planning some very interesting activities to reach people in all walks of life and in every age group in our community. I have been able to assure the Group that Thatcham Town Council will continue to give the Campaign its full support and encouragement."
