The history & future of Greenham Common

Greenham Common historian Jonathan Sayers will present “A history of Greenham Common” largely covering its history as a RAF base but also taking a quick peek at what lay there before the base. In the second part of this talk, Jacky Akam from Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire Wildlife Trust(BBOWT) and Adrian Wallington (Ranger for Greenham & Crookham Common) from West Berkshire Council, will discuss the present management of this countryside site and the future plans.

The Mayor of Newbury to be Arrested

On Saturday 21st May members of Earl Rivers Regiment of Foote, The Sealed Knot, will be arresting the recently elected Mayor of Newbury, Councillor Jeff Beck. The event recreates a scene from the 1645 when Royalist soldiers garrisoned at Donnington Castle entered the town and attempted to hold the Mayor to ransom. Their plan was to demand food and provisions from the townspeople in return for the safe release of the Mayor.
